therapy

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event, and can be completely debilitating.

Through our partnership with the Canadian Armed Forces' Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reintegration program, we provide ill and injured veterans an opportunity to heal through our Animal Therapy Program. This highly successful program has shown a reduction in anxiety and depression and reduced PTSD symptom severity for many participants. We are proud to offer Veterans with PTSD and other disabilities the opportunity to work hands on with animals to facilitate their healing.

We proudly support the Canadian Armed Forces, personnel and veterans through our Rehabilitation, Reintegration, Recovery Program.

education

Educating youth and offering the opportunity to learn through animals is the core of our mission. Allowing children to learn by play and experience animals by seeing, touching
and interacting with them is extremely impactful. It is our goal to offer an inclusive experience to all children regardless of socio-economic status or physical and cognitive ability.

Though class trips, summer compassion camps, PA day programs, events and volunteer days, we help youth develop a personal understanding of themselves, recognizing their
own special skills, talents, abilities and fostering in them a sense of self-worth. Our humane education programs offer a unique learning opportunity through hand’s on activities with animals, helping them to develop empathy and compassion.

our animals

Happy Tails Farm Sanctuary is an animal rescue offering lifelong sanctuary and rehabilitation to abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

We are not a petting zoo and as such we educate our visitors on the importance of respecting animals in their space. The animals are not here to entertain us, but to help teach us the importance of respecting all life, of fostering compassion and empathy and to help people open their circle of compassion to all animals.

At Happy Tails we love all animals, regardless of species. We provide equal care to all life on the farm, whether chicken, sheep, goat, pig, rabbit, alpaca, cat or dog. All sanctuary residents are provided with the best care possible allowing them to live out the rest of their lives in peace, safety and contented bliss.

Meet some of our animals and learn their stories.
